WE—TOM ASHLEY & TRISH CRAPO—bought the land in Leyden that is now Dancing Bear Farm in 1981. We're both city kids (Tom grew up in Toledo, OH; Trish in Miami, FL) who came to farming through organic gardening in college. Those first years we made a lot of mistakes and had some good laughs as we figured out how to farm.
Now, twenty-five years later, we are proud to supply produce to some of the finest restaurants in Boston and Northampton, and to our loyal customers at the farmers' markets!
Our daughters, Kate and Liza, have helped in various ways throughout the years. Both girls have been known to pull weeds, pick strawberries, harvest tomatoes and sit behind a market table.
